Michelle -- It could be very simple: I order book from retailer. Publisher paid for copyright but does not print or hold inventory. Retailer prints book at nearest distribution center and ships. UPS, etc. delivers. No inventory. Lowest shipping charge. Fastest time. Need print-to-order capability. Need contracts with multiple publishers. Wholesaler and printer and retailer become one and the same. Guess who can do this? Guess who can't do this without major league investment? That is what I took from today's cc.
