Steve, Yes, maybe you should get the Aussie paddler to join S.I. so that there would be at least 3 paddlers on here. Actually, I'm kind of surprised that more paddlers haven't shown up by now. In my area, it seems as though just about 1 out of every 8 or 10 cars or trucks has a canoe on its roof from May through to October... I guess that the S.I. demographics must be vastly different. Perhaps the population is highly skewed by the presence of large numbers of couch potatoes...(-: As far as "chance meetings" while out paddling, there are only a couple of marshes or creeks where I'm not likely to meet another paddler. I usually meet one or two canoes or kayaks regardless of what day of the week I'm out on the water. However, I've experienced some other forms of "chance meetings", but these are of the "equine variety". Over the years, I've ridden horses in all kinds of forests and the ultimate surprise is to meet another solitary rider. I make special mention of these occasions because just about every rider knows what kind of "big thrill" their horse experiences when it unexpectedly encounters another horse. Invariably both horses come to an abrupt halt with a rather shocked look on their faces and ears held stiffly forward. Then they fill their lungs to full capacity... (you can feel this massive intake of air like some small earthquake taking place beneath you). Then, like some maddened jazz horns, the horses blast forth that special greeting reserved for such rare "chance meetings". I'm not quite sure of the decibel level of these greetings, but it must register right up there with a sonic boom. *BTW, occasionally one of these special "high decibel greetings" is wasted on a chance meeting with a stray cow. In such cases, the cow usually beats a hasty retreat into the bush as your horse snorts and shakes its head in disgust... (-: Later, Croc
