Yes, I know what the Dow is. If MSFT is to become a Dow component
although, it necessarily has to first become a member of the NYSE.


Not so according to the Nasdaq people. Nasdaq officials were the
ones making the request that MSFT/INTC/CSCO be added. I am sure
that when they made such a request, they were not suggesting that
these 3 companies leave for the NYSE. Their point was that the
DOW is just an index of 30 stocks. Why not have these heavyweights
included. Their request was turned down at that point--but maybe
things might change (especially if NYSE can't lure away MSFT).

I guess your point is that it ain't gonna happen because of
the rules (or politics) involved. I acknowledge that it is
not probable but you never know if MSFT gets much bigger. Maybe
it can become an exception to the rule.
