Another possibility may be that the Ad content threw gas on the "ID" fire, and the availability story is a cover-up for pulling the ad's. Or suppose they've decided they need to eliminate the "ID" feature completely?"

Maybe they haven't lined up enough (finished product) software support yet fo their big intro.

Or maybe the PIIIs we're seeing on pricewatch aren't really PIIIs at all, but are actually remarked PIIs. Who would know the difference when there's no software out to test SSE, and when the chip otherwise benchmarks identically to a PII?
