Net stocks buoy technology shares . . .

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Strong financial reports from Web retailers Amazon and eBay could fuel more gains among tech stocks Wednesday, extending a party that began with a Net spin-off and IBM's stock split. The Morgan Stanley Technology Index jumped 3.8 percent, edging out a 3.7 percent gain in the Pacific Stock Exchange Technology Index. "The key to the technology sector is that earnings numbers are coming in," said Arnie Owen, managing director of equities at Cruttenden Roth. "The quality of earnings is good and the outlook for the future is good." See Market Snapshot. The Goldman Sachs Internet Index shot up 6.2 percent, while the Amex Internet Index rose 4.1 percent. The Amex Networking Index added 2.8 percent.
