Is this true ?

I find this very hard to believe, as INTEL has said that HIGH-end Pentium chips are the ones that are selling/have sold, and DELL is the undisputed leader in this segment...

It also is an-up and coming in the small server market...

It has a good notebook business also...

As a corporate customer, I would buy Dell before Compaq, Gateway or any of the others...

What do the rest of you people think ?

Take care
Jean

RE: "Reliable informed source on CNBC...": I don't think I would ever characterize ANYONE as such on a media hype show like CNBC...but aside from my opinion of the reliability of their sources, what WAS said by the CFO OF COMPAQ on CNBC (again, not necessarily a "reliable source" and certainly a biased source!) was that CPQ is growing at 3X the rate of the industry (but he wasn't specific about WHAT is growing 3X), and when questioned about who CPQ is taking biz from he said "well the white box makers such as our biggest competitors HP, IBM and DELL..." Those may not have been his exact words but the idea is that he was just trying to plant the idea that they are competing well against the biggest competitors. Of course he also said "We won't know for a while exactly where we are taking business away..." meaning that he has NO IDEA whether they are stealing share from anyone.

My opinion: they are just grabbing share of the growing market, and Christmas volumes allowed them to beat their estimates, just like GTW and just like DELL will...

Hope this clarifies the info broadcast on CNBC this morning...GR
