Re : Tritel will deploy the 1900 MHz digital systems throughout Mississippi and Alabama ...

If you ever look at a Sprint PCS brochure (or webpage, probably) that shows which areas of the U.S. have Sprint PCS coverage and/or roaming agreements, the biggest "hole" in the entire country is (right now) Mississippi and Alabama.

DaveMG:

ATT's network is based on IS-136 TDMA. Tritel is an AT&T partner. As long as AT&T remains committed to IS-136 AND it keeps offering its one rate plan, somebody's gonna have to keep planting lots of IS-136 equipment. It's really that simple.

Best regards,

Gregg

Ericsson to implement GPRS

STOCKHOLM—Ericsson Inc. announced it signed a contract with German operator Deutsche Telekom MobilNet to implement General Packet Radio Service into T-Mobil's Global System for Mobile communications network.

The technology will allow T-Mobile to offer wireless Internet and other Internet Protocol-based services at speeds up to 115 kilobits per second—a more than ten-fold increase from the current network's speed, said Ericsson.

GPRS is a common step for both GSM and Time Division Multiple Access networks to handle higher data speeds and offer third-generation capabilities, said Ericsson. The company's deliveries will include an Ericsson Packet Switching IP and Router platform.
