Scumbria,
RE:"Prices start at $869 !

What justifies this price? PIII performance is imperceptibly
better than PII. "...

You see, you know TOO MUCH.

All the consumer sees is the numbers. First it's Megahertz sells (Notice P-III is at 500, Intel has learned this lesson well) (TM Jim McMannis), now it's III is better than II. It's all in the numbers, man! I can't wait for the new benchmarks that ZD/Intel comes up with to "prove" you just gotta have dis here CPU. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile the proverbial "boner" has popped up in the form of the ID on a chip. Rather than retool, Intel will see if they can cover it up.
If they have to they will permenently disable to feature.

Jim

The same reason AMD can charge $153 for a 400 MHz K6-2 that performs imperceptibly better than a $60 300 MHz K6-2.

Don't you know !

Paul

Scumbria, Re: What justifies this price? PIII performance is imperceptibly better than PII.

Did feel the same about K6-2 vs K6 ?
