SAN JOSE (Dow Jones)--Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), Lucent Technologies (LU) Inc.,
Network Associates Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) formed a venture
group to pursue joint security research contracts.

The companies said in a joint press release Wednesday that the group, called the
Security Research Alliance, will use the companies' respective technologies to enhance
the security of desktops and networks.

The companies also want to educate information technology professionals on advanced
secure technology.

The group plans to sponsor educational forums and pursue enhanced funding and
development opportunities.

The first educational forum, the Security Research "Crystal Ball" Symposium, will be held
April 13.
