An excellent question, TraderEd. I wish a concise answer were easier.

I can think of no one source (or even 5 sources) that would span the discussions taking place on this thread. Part of its utility, as you no doubt have surmised by now, lies in the fact that many of us are working with new permutations of the available technology.

That having been said, I think the number one book I'd recommend would be Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PCs (10th Ed.) for more info, see

amazon.com

It is very clear, well written, and lets a person get up to speed on topics they want or need to learn about without forcing them to go through lots they don't. It also doubles as a great reference source should you want to build or troubleshoot later. This edition is just 4 months old, and Mueller works hard at staying current. Costco and other shops often have it for less $ than amazon lists, if that is a concern.

If you would narrow your question slightly--e.g., what topics are you most interested in learning more about--I might be able to give some other appropriate answers.

Congrats on your trading success, welcome to the thread, and good luck with your Dream Machine.

Regards,

Dave

books or other information sources

The PC Guide pcguide.com (site seems VERY slow tonight) is a well maintained general resource.
