Only one problem with your argument.

His liberal Dane County constituents are shocked and angry that he did this.

He won by less than 1% statewide in the last election, his seat is hardly safe.

I'd vote for him simply because he demonstrated that his vote is his vote, no matter which way he votes in the long term of this trial. Wonder if it will catch on. What a concept. Of course dipy says he's a liar like the rest of his heros so who knows.
