Paul,

There are problems with your arguments. First of all, Novoynx was and still is a spin-off but the objectives and goals of the spin-off were WAY TOO FOCUSED! It only focused on porting Netscape to the NetWare platform. A mistake for a spin-off. Secondly, Novonyx was a simple answer on how to companies could accomplish a specific goal. The problem was that Novell had to initially share its direction opinons with Netscape. Another mistake for a spin-off.

The spin-off that I was referring to addressed both these problems. Therefore it cannot be compared to Novonyx.

First of all, the new spin-off would have a larger scale focus in mind - that is to take the Novell technology into the Internet / E-Commerce arena (something that - like it or not - is not a prime objective of Novell).

Secondly, the spin-off would be WHOLELY OWNED AND CONTROLLED by Novell. No partnership relationships in this spin-off. You can consider it to be a unique Division of Novell. This means that Novell and only Novell can set the non-watered down directions and goals of this spin-off.

So, if it would appease you that the spin-off actually be a Division within Novell, who cares. But it must be unique enough so that it can be given the freedom from other company objectives that are not yet focusing on taking the NDS and Novell technologies to the Internet / E-Commerce space.

If this does not happen and they keep Digital Me type initiatives within the core of Novell, then dont come complaining on this board that Novell screwed up because they were not aggressive enough. If John Slitz was accurate in his statement at the Global Partners Summit, then Novell is not yet ready to focus on Internet / E-Commerce service enablement of NDS. This will mean that Novell will miss their shot at making Digital Me a success.
