JDN.... I agree! I say let EP and EM run the business, that's what they get paid for.....and they seem to know what they're doing! I don't care who gets AV shares as long as the IPO/spin-off is viewed as successful and CPQ shares continue north! I'll take the shares if they decide to give them to me, but it's not gonna bunch up my shorts if I don't get them. El

OK, I am one of the CPQ shareholders who is complaining. I have no problem with CPQ holding on to AV. Let them hold onto it and let them build it into a company that can go head to head with Yahoo and Amazon. Fine.

All I am saying is that if they are going to spin it off:

a) Spin some of the shares off to the shareholders or,
b) Let the shareholders subscribe at the initial offering price and get the benefits that the large institutional customers get.

So let's continue the analysis.... the 32 bil adds to the equity of the company which if there are 1.5 bil shares or so means the shares just bounced up over $20 apiece. Not too shabby. And that increase would be darned near pure profit from the IPO.

Remember Earl Mason said today on CNBC at 1:00 that they "plan" to partial IPO later, *depending on how it looks at the time". In other words they are assuming a very reasonable flexibole stance and will do whatever is most efficacious for the multiple bottom lines (shareholder value, profitability, position in the market, etc.)

JDN,
RE:"Dear Jim: You are forgetting that CPQ will get 2 Billion $$$ for
the portion of AV that it does take to market."

Doesn't matter. It's still better for the shareholders to get the AV stock.
Just look, we're almost 5 points off todays high. Maybe CPQ will get the message.
