John: This allegation was first made by the U.S Assistant (or was it the Under Secretary) Secretary of Commerce a few months ago while he was in Philippines on a tour to the S.E.Asia,so this is nothing new,and the Chinese was duly pissed by his comments,I don't recall exactly what the Chinese said at the time but pissed they were nonetheless that much I remember.

Export subsidies have the same effect as devaluing the currency but then again everybody does it not just China and besides this is old news. The Art Cashin schmuck didn't reveal anything new that hasn't already been known for quite some time, probably he was trying look smart on TV and impress the unsuspecting audience if had any.

PS:Ask Lee about the the mechanics in case you want to know as I don't want to hurt my brain, too lazy I am I tell ya.

Hi John,..Re:. this guy Art Cashin...he never says anything that's not hedged.

I don't know why he's discussing the export situation as it's Charlene Barshefski's (sp?) job to worry about export subsidies. <g> He should be sniffing out why the $BKX can't rally and why the bank stocks are weak. Or why the overall market is lagging the big cap techs. Could it be the ones with growing earnings are getting rewarded? Could it also be that these are predominately NAZ stocks?

Actually there is a worrisome divergence between the NYSE and Adv/Dec. issues.

Also, the new highs/new lows are troubling, (except for the NAZ).

Just my 2 cents, <g>
