30-40% is pretty "industry standard" gross margin for the big box computer retailers. That's 30-40% on the everyday street price. As products age on the shelf, both retailer and manufacturer margins get compressed as discounts, rebates, special ads, and other pricing pressures are used to try and get them to move.
