More from our Russian correspondent evaluating some competitors:

"I like Digital Persona's (actually MIT) algorithms and their fingerprint scanner itself. ABC use less impressive recognition software, their SDK is more or less, actually their driver does not accept re-entrancy, but I use it with some patch to fix that and with own recognition algorithms. ABC is the canadian company and also they have their Europe representative in Vienna. I did not play with BAC scanner, it's so cheap I even afraid to use it. I saw fingerprint pictures they produce on their scanner - not so good... Sony FIU sanner from I/O Software has recognition algorithms implemented inside (!) the unit. It makes device more expansive and software system implementation a bit unflexible, but it keeps PC CPU free."

I don't think he's seen any F3 device, or it just wasn't worth mentioning. The F3 is similar in setup to the Sony FIU.
