In my opinion, G.Lite will be an intro ADSL product to the mass public,…..kind of like getting the public hooked on higher speeds of 56k. Look at what people said about how long 56k modems would be around. Some said a year or two. I feel 56k modems will be around at least another 2 years, until ADSL really takes off. In my opinion G.Lite may have the same life cycle as 56k modems. People will be really happy at speeds of 256k, 332k and 512k. Only the power users will want greater speeds at first, but they will be the minority. As time goes on,….say another 3 years, then the masses will want greater than 512k and the Networks backbone will hopefully be able to handle the traffic. I guess my point is that G.Lite may not be as good in performance, but there are always tradeoffs, in that it is supposed to be easier to install, plug and play,… ( will see ), and will be distributed through retail stores. The RBOCS need to take small steps into this high speed ADSL business or they will fall on their face. Like the saying goes "crawl before you walk, walk before you run, run before you ADSL"
All in my opinion
