Must take exception to this one. I have had a Qualcomm CDMA phone for 2 months along with my wife and 2 of my managers. We talk to each other daily. I have used it long-distance, short-distance, inside, outside, etc. Dropped calls have been less than what I could count on one hand. Quality is excellent 98% of the time. The dropped calls and quality deterioation occurs in some areas where the cell is weak. I love my Qphone. If the sat phone can be this good, wow!

This question has come up several times. It is my understanding that the CDMA being used for satellites is a fraternal twin to cellular / PCS CDMA rather than an identical twin. In other words, the same genetic material rejiggered some for the different application, bandwidth, etc.

From what I've been told and read, the G* audio quality is at least as good as the terrestrial version. Truth be told, however, it is one thing to do this now and quite something else to do it with a gazillion subscribers. Time will tell, but I am very optimistic.
