Yep ... DSL actual deployment speeds and prices are all over the map during the learning curve and will converge as time goes by.

The telco's challenge in DSL deployment of a variable speed service is to adopt a service policy that maximizes their return. Many factors impinge on designing the policy: subscriber density, technical skills and resources, business attitudes, estimated support costs, etc, etc. The bottom line all policies are guesses and subject to change.

I'm saddled with GTE who has always arrived at the party latest with the leastest. And the local alternative, US West, is not much better.

TCI has had west Seattle wired up for a couple of years now and has never built out the rest of the area. TCI is deeply hated up here. Any mention of TCI is likely to be met by short, percussive exhalations and extensive wry headshaking.
