Jamshid was a mythical/historical king in ancient Iran. During his reign, which occurred thousands of years ago, before the written word, he supposedly unified the Iranian tribes and began a strong monarchist dynasty, thus setting the stage for the Greco-Persian wars that were such an important part in the development of Western Civilization. The city from which the ancient Iranian monarchs ruled their empire, Persepolis, which means city of the Persians or Iranians in Greek, is called takht-e-jamshid by Iranians, which means the Throne of Jamshid.
