So one more time slowly, if it's still quoted, you don't have to realize the gain. Thus one can use the gains until the position is covered at which time there will be a realized short term gain. Until then, it's irr on top of irr. I don't care what TurboTax tells you, you're effing wrong. I've got tons of crap that we've shorted over the years that is quoted less than a $1 that is several years old and I generate new ones every year. IMo, IFLY will be one of those. But you'll be long gone, back to sweeping floors by then.
