Thomas: the NAS A/D is an interesting sight right now ..a good chunk of that "garbage" you refer to is the majority of a thousand small S&Ls, reits and insurance companies that are cash or asset-rich but selling at or below book value because the sectors are out of favor. I own little buckets of the stuff- they are fundamentally sound businesses selling at 1974 valuations...when the tech mania has burned out the brokerages will return to consolidate businesses in these sectors. But I don't see it happening until the techs burn out.
