I would not be surprised. As for me, I hope the guy takes a real bath. I think he is a manipulative clown. Just my opinion.

NEW Margin Rules at Datek's.

Maintenance Requirements

The minimum maintenance requirements for your margin-enabled account at Datek Online are the sum of the following values:

1.) 30% of the current market value of all securities long not otherwise specified as requiring higher maintenance.

2.) $5.00 per share or 30% of the current market value, whichever amount is greater, of each short position priced at $5.00 per share or above.

3.) $2.50 per share or 100% of current market value, whichever amount is greater, of each short position priced at less than $5.00 per share.

Important Note: For select highly volatile stocks, Datek Online may impose maintenance requirements between 40% and 100%. In addition, the equity account ratio at which positions in a margin-enabled account may be closed out has been raised to approximately 10% from 5%.

Volatile Stocks

Datek Online has imposed a special 50% maintenance requirement for the following stocks:

Name Symbol
1. Ameritrade AMTD
2. Amazon.com AMZN
3. At-Home ATHM
4. Books-A-Million BAMM
5. Broadcast.com BRCM
6. CMGI Inc. CMGI
7. Cytel Corp. CYTL
8. Data Broadcasting DBCC
9. Double-Click DCLK
10. eBay Inc. EBAY
11. E-Trade Group EGRP
12. Excite Inc XCIT
13. Go2Net GNET
14. Infoseek SEEK

17. Lycos Inc. LCOS
18. Marketwatch.com MKTW
19. Siebert Financial SIEB
20. Ubid Inc. UBID
21. Yahoo Inc. YHOO

Commentary: This seems to halt different "fallacies".
-The "fall through" feature on halted stocks like TRBD (when a zero price sets free all tied up margin on that stock into the account equity).
-Over-proportional purchasing power (free capital) swings in stocks which fell sharply, especially in short portfolios.
