my broker says yes, but doesn't know how much......but this may be a year away.....maybe Friday will clear things up

The answer is "yes".

My understanding is that Compaq will own the majority interest
in the new spin-off company, and consequently, the existing
shareholders will have a piece of the AV pie at a share ratio
yet to be decided by CPQ's Board. A decision probably will
not be made until the end of the year giving the company ample
time to test the waters.

If the decision is made to sell AV outright, Compaq would not
have to compensate its shareholders.

Is everyone in agreement?
