mark/stephen:
article in thestreet tonight re: yhoo possibly buying geocity...could be announced by tomorrow...certainly strengthen the franchise re: LYCOS.
EGRP taken up by the majors? interesting...some weeks ago, market cap of schwab exceeded MER...i wonder what a reverse play (SCH buying MER) would look like? unlikely, but who really thought it would look like this anyway?
also, cramer had an interesting column notion tonight...the way the majors (leh, mer, etc,etc...) could stem the departure of investments of folks who are trading on-line would be to offer free trading, (maybe require some minimum balance). if some of these brokerages can make $ charging $7 for a trade, how much can it really cost to set up such a system...and, what would it be worth to MER to keep me around?
great marketing for them, also...they could try to sell me on converting some of my internet profits (not) into something secure, just in case it's only a mania...i wouldn't want to see it all go up in smoke, would I?
anyway, you get the pitch
FWIW
