My husband used to design sewage treatment plants, and water treatment plants for industrial effluent. I thought it was very interesting, and I was very proud of him. It did cause a bit of eyebrow raising during the occasional cocktail party chit-chat, but most people didn't really mind, once he started talking about Superfund and remediation and all that, because the environment is trendy.

Anyway, now he works for the federal government as a patent examiner, but I wish he were still an engineer. The thing I like best about engineers is that they are very practical, so you can ask them how to solve problems, and they like that. You know, like what kind of rifling would be best in a gerbil cannon. Stuff like that. I mean, an engineer would actually give you a straight answer to a question like that. I think that's neat.

I don't usually mind the geeky part, the semi-autism, because I am usually a bundle of contradictory emotions, and if the other party is not empathetic, then it's probably for the best.
