I have been under the impression that the G* phones, pictures of which are
publicly available, are going to be priced at a very affordable US$600.00. 20%
of the cost of the most basic I* unit. Moreover, the I* phones, one of which I
have had the displeasure of trying, only work if the antenna points straight up.
Pun intended, what's up with that? Furthermore, with Vodaphone moving
forward to acquire Airtouch, G* users will see a more uniform rate, worldwide
(almost... let us not forget about DACOM, etc.). Anyhow, you're right, G*
presents a much better value. With estimated airtime rates around US$1.20 per
minute, I believe, in combination with the greater uniformity of rates, that G* will
be less expensive to operate. Furthermore, we must also remember that so long
as you are in a cell zone that supports CDMA technology (Europe has not yet
agreed to conform to QCOM's CDMA), you will generally run and roam on
traditional systems, thereby deceasing your rates to standard cell rates (now
around US$0.10 - 0.25 per minute), and further eliminating the possibility of sat
/ wireless errors (i.e. signal path / crossover problems... all of which have been
generally taken care of already.).

By the way, to those who are long, or who support the concept, or who are
skeptical of investing in, but would still use the G* system: have you taken the
necessary steps to have yourselves placed on the list of people to be the first to
get the phones and initiate service? If you have not, and you would like to, you
might consider calling Loral HQ. I'm excited to get one. Moreover, it's nice to
know it won't weigh even 1/2 as much as the fairly heavy I* units.

"Hmmm, liposuction plus methanol in a cell phone.......works in rockets!"

Or for methane power..."There is this plastic tubing coming out of my cell phone and they say to stick it WHERE???"
