I like Raymond Loewy's designs, for sure. I was intrigued by Henry Dreyfuss' five tenets for industrial design, all of which are unified under the basic premise of "fitting machines to people": 1) convenient to use, including utility and safety, 2) ease of maintenance, 3) cost of manufacture and distribution, 4) merchandising and competition, and 5) appearance. The analogy between successful design, as Dreyfuss envisioned it, and successful business, is readily apparent.
