Anyone notice the 440,000 share block trade this morning at 8:37:32? It was at the bid. Then the bid dropped to 40. It came right back, and the bid now stands at 40 3/8 looking somewhat strong. (It's hard to tell how strong without Level II)

Looks like we're up at the open, but does anyone know what to make of this kind of activity?

Bid now at 40 1/2.

I've been think for the past couple of days that *if* a company wanted to buyout Apple Computer (for whatever reason) the time to do it would be now.

It's valuation is low -- particularly relative to its excellent near-term prospects. What would an acquirer gain by waiting six months or more?

That said, I don't think it would happen. The reason is Steve Jobs. After seeing the job he did on Amelio, what CEO would clasp him to their bosom? Conversely, who would want acquire Apple without him (and his NeXT team)?

Still, maybe the reason he retains the "interim" tag is to keep the buyout option open.

PS> 441K in pre-market on no news -- what's that about?
