Promatory Communications and Aware Announce Interoperability Partnership WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 1999--Promatory Communications, Inc. of Fremont, Calif., and Aware, Inc. of Bedford, Mass. today announced an interoperability partnership that encompasses joint marketing efforts and joint testing of leading edge solutions for flexible and affordable broadband access over Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). The high degree of interoperability between Promatory IMAS(TM) (Intelligent Multiservice Access System) and Aware's customer premise equipment solution, the X200 ADSL Access Router (ATU-R), facilitates both Full Rate DMT ADSL and G.lite ADSL, utilizing the PPP-over-AAL5 model as specified by the ADSL Forum. Interoperability between Promatory's IMAS and Aware's X200 Router helps Promatory assure service providers of a robust standards-based solution for their ATM/ADSL access networks. "Our close cooperation with Promatory over the last year has included licensing of Aware's G.992.2 technology as well as engineering efforts resulting in complete interoperability between our X200 ADSL ATM router and the fully featured Promatory IMAS solution," said David C. Hunter, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Aware. "The complete ATM feature set of the IMAS switch provides SVCs as well as PVCs and delivers true value to service providers. This cooperation has identified important system level market requirements that drive Aware's core technology licensing initiatives." "Together, the Promatory IMAS and the Aware X200 create a seamless environment for service providers and a complete end-to-end product offering for Promatory's strategic partners and distributors," said Richard Lane, vice president of sales and business development for Promatory Communications. "Having the opportunity to work closely with one of the leading DSL technology companies for the past nineteen months has been extremely valuable to Promatory, and we anticipate continued close collaboration in the months to come." The Promatory IMAS solution is the industry's first carrier-class broadband access system to combine support for multiple DSL transmission types with high-capacity ATM switching, delivering unmatched scalability, port density and a redundant architecture for reliability. Designed primarily for service providers who wish to offer business quality DSL services, the IMAS delivers full ATM switching, traffic management and Quality of Service (QoS). The Promatory IMAS chassis supports multiple DSL technologies, including Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line-Discrete Multitone (ADSL-DMT), Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line-Carrierless Amplitude and Phase Modulation (ADSL-CAP), ISDN-based Digital Subscriber Line (IDSL) and Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) Promatory IMAS Availability The IMAS chassis is offered in two sizes (19 inches and 23 inches) and is available now with ADSL-DMT and ADSL-CAP line cards through Promatory and its distributors and partners. SDSL and IDSL line cards will be rolled out in February and March. Additional DSL line cards will be released throughout 1999. Aware x200 ADSL Access Router An ultra-high-speed router capable of delivering data at speeds of more than 8 Mbps downstream and 768 kbps upstream, the x200 features rate adaptivity, IP routing, SNMP management, and it supports multiple users on an Ethernet LAN. Built-in routing functionality provides cost-effective access to private LANs by eliminating the need for customers to purchase additional routers. The x200 supports both full-rate DMT ADSL and G.992.2 standards-based DSL Lite. About Promatory Communications, Inc.
