The only reason for the existence of @Home is cable industry. So forget it, ATHM can't go with DSL. RBOCs can partner with much powerful AOL. RBOCs don't need ATHM. We all know cable companies in general, not just TCI, has a bad rap with the public. But look at how AT&T has come along since Amstrong took over. AT&T is getting leaner and meaner, and more customer oriented. The just announced flat-rate package from AT&T is a proof of it. So, I am very confident that Amstrong will reform TCI from the top to the bottom after the merger is complete. BTW, TCI's name will not remain. People will have to associate cable with AT&T now on. And the cable's image will improve.

Scott;

Similar experience in Vancouver where Roger's Cable is intensely
disliked. In fact, a few years ago Roger's introducing negative pricing option by increasing Cable rates for new channels as a default - if you didn't want the new channels/rates you hand to mail a pre-printed card by a deadline. The national furor led to an act of Parliament and the procedure is no longer allowed.

BTW recently got ATHM service and while their are bugs the company seems responsive to them - all are fixed and my experience with customer support has been excellent. I think therefore most customers will have no trouble separating @home from their cable provider.

But the important point is that as a net user you soon become aware that the Cable company is involved only in the hookup and providing the modem and software installation. The tech told me there are sixty teams of two in Vancouver (pop'n 2 million) installing 250 connections per day. One your hooked up the involvement with the cable company is virtually nil - @ home customer support take over and have been very good - prompt and efficient.
