Barrick says regulator kills Argentina poison pill

By Darren Schuettler
JOHANNESBURG, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Canada's Barrick Gold
Corp. <ABX.TO> said on Thursday that a Canadian securities
regulator had issued a cease trading order against the
shareholder rights plan adopted by Argentina Gold Corp.
<ARP.V>, target of a Barrick hostile takeover bid.
Barrick, North America's second-largest gold miner, said in
a statement received in Johannesburg that it believed its
C$5.00 per share offer to Argentina Gold shareholders would
succeed following the actions of the British Columbia
Securities Commission.
"We are extremely pleased by the decision of the B.C.
securities regulators to allow the shareholders of Argentina
Gold to make their own decision," said Barrick President and
Chief Executive Officer Paul Melnuk.
Barrick said its offer expires on January 29 and it
recommended that shareholders of Argentina Gold who wish to
accept Barrick's offer tender their shares today.
The offer is conditional on Barrick acquiring at least 50.1
percent of Argentina Gold's common shares, including the 9.9
percent stake already owned by Barrick.

Hutch,
Any idea what the implication of this might be?
What are Barrick's chances?
The share price seems to reflect some uncertainty.
