I don't use pre-set stops any more for exactly that reason. In fact, I usually do the reverse with pre-set buys lower and pre-set sells higher.

I "lost" 1K at $9.25 that way on Tuesday during the run-up.
Normally, having bought those shares near $6 (also on a pre-set buy), I would be happy, but this time, after reading the 2 announcements, I wasn't <g>

Bob, I've been trying to work the options.

I have had the same xperience with stops, several painfil times. I can't figure them.

Lately, MRVC options seemed pricey, so I have been trying to sell some calls to buffer a position. I can't seem to get my price!

It's a racket, I tell ya. Makes me almost want to buy and hold!
