David, A good portion of the stone used to make the stone crafted products are made from Opal. It is very clear on the eagle head. That piece is chocolate opal. They use glue to assemble the bird together. The base of the eagle is quartz or Zinc.

Anything which is super dark with a tint of red is iron like what the Owl is standing on.

Korean ladies ware a lot of opal -

Not usually so. Normally it takes months to dig out all the facts. Sometimes, of course, it becomes apparent fairly early that there's no real problem.
