This article is only an ad for a failed technology. Amati is trying to push it since they are under orders to make it go from TXN. This guy has got himself fooled into believing this bilge. Well, if you're selling MIBs and access concentrators, I can see why you want to make a splash out of it since that stuff is about the most expensive gear around. It crowds COs, and the nightmare mess that evolves out of attempts to scale will definitely bust fool telcos under orders like those promulgated by TXN from carriers like SBC.

>> DSLAC or DSL Access "Concentrator," often employing an ethernet-like fabric

I see the difference. A DSLAM is DSL-in, ATM-out. A DSLAC is DSL-in, Ethernet-out. With assorted frills. Yes?

So a DSLAC is subject to contention on the Ethernet segment.

What are the corresponding bottleneck issues for ATM?

What are the tradeoffs for DSLAM and DSLAC on the way to the provider upstream edge?

All this is very interesting!

Yow! Am I DEBORED and UNJADED yet?
