>>You know, Mr. F, everyone can keep yelling about tulips, tradition, history, etc., but guess what? The Internet is here to stay. The entire world landscape is changing. Life (if it goes on - big if) will be entirely different than yours and my childhood. Give it up. People will look back in a few years (remember big if) and say, "if I had only invested in those Internet companies, I'd be rich". And guess what, they will also say, "you know, I could have bought just about any of them in 1997-1999". You can continue to be negative, but look at a chart on MANY of the tech companies from 1987 to now. $1000 turns into millions in case after case. Seems impossible, but it is true. Whose companies will return millions? A few. Whose companies will return hundreds of thousands. Many. Whose companies will return a good profit year after year. Just about every Internet company today.<< Soros, I understand your enthusiasm, however don't let your enthusiasm blind you to the fact that there are some companies that will crash and burn everyone who holds their stocks. Yes, I agree that selected technology and Internet stocks can be tremendous wealth generators but others will be real dogs. Mr. Greenspan basically said that for many people - speculation (not investing) is happening. He did say that some well chosen stocks will be winners. My advice to anyone is look at Internet stocks as a growth investor would - and not as a speculator would. Remember that a good idea for a company and 75 cents will buy you a bad cup of coffee. Look to the Management group, their business model, their market share, cash flow and alliances, etc. This way, you can see if they can make their idea a reality. This is why I am own Bid.com. I don't want to rain on your enthusiasm, however there are some new investors who could get very excited by what you have said and try to buy anything that has a good story. Unfortunately, that is what I did many times when I was younger and I lost a bundle. I don't want others to do the same.
