Mike,

Your brother is living on borrowed time. The 1986 Chevy Surburban w/162000 miles is a bubble. It will end like all other bubbles. See the 1986 Toyota Corolla and in particular the 1979 Ford Pinto. Great long lasting car until a 5 mph read-end collision. Your brother should visit these sites for a real eye opener:

123lemoncheck.com
www1.aggroup.com

I suggest public transportation, bicycles and walking.<G>

" A true redneck buys American!"

I sure hope buying American doesn't turn me into a redneck. <g>

Of course, it all depends how you define 'American' with respect to cars. I doubt there are any 100% American vehicles being manufactured today.

Mike, I bought a 1977 Toyota Corolla in 1977. After using if for a long time, I gave it to my Dad. After he bought a new car, he gave it to my nephew. It now has over 345000 miles on it. No rust. No alternators, carbs, starters, etc. We have had to buy new tires and put in gasoline. <G> American cars are getting better. They have gone from awful to a little better than awful. And smart rednecks buy what works.
