One last GTW/CPQ/AAPL comparison Note: All PE's are forward-looking for FY'99. With GTW's recent run-up, I thought I'd give one last look to the PE's of these three once-compatible stocks. AAPL: 40 1/2, 2.65, PE: 15.28 CPQ: 48, 1.80, PE: 26.67 GTW: 69 1/4, 2.77, PE: 25.02 On a simplified basis, CPQ's and GTW's PE's put AAPL at 66-70. So is 66-70 reasonable? Probably not, because the PE's currently assigned to GTW and CPQ probably aren't reasonable. When the market peaked in July/early August, these three companies had similar PE's and topped out around 21.5 PE forward-looking. So, a more reasonable goal might be for AAPL to return to those PE levels, or maybe even a little less. That still puts us at 53-56 for the stock price. What does all this mean? It means I'm going to remove the good-til-cancel limit sell order on my shares at 44 7/8. I for one intend to hang on until the Street starts treating this company with respect. Let's just hope I live that long! :-) Andrew
