<<HAL ad will have a net positive effect>>

Yes on people Age 30 and over who have seen the original 2001.

I have not yet seen 2010 or even 2065, though I have read the books (great reads!).

The youngsters may not appreciate this.

My guess is that in whatever form, the HAL ad will have a net positiveeffect

The question is will it have had as positive effect as the new iMac add. I'm sure it wont. The superbowl is the perfect stage for the iMac IMHO.

fact that most won't have seen the ad and will enjoy it

You may have a diferent opinion after you see it. It's low budget monotone ripoff of a movie that has limited appeal to start with. No rolling stones, no celebs, no sex appeal, no humor, not even any Macs in it.
