One possibility is that the MM's and institutions have shaken all the inventory they need out of
the pockets of the small investors, and are lying in wait for the big pop associated with the
earnings and other announcements.

Very well said! That's why its absolutely murder to set stop-losses on the NASDAQ. MMs will take your stock for cheap!
