As stupid as it sounds, I'm looking forward to the day when my refrigerator runs self-diagnostics, then calls GE and downloads the data.

I've got a (relatively) new refrigerator that I believe runs more than it should. It seems to be running all the time, and we don't use it that much. I'm stuck having to call a repair man for something that might be as simple as cleaning the coils on the compressor.

How neat would it be to get a message from GE saying that my refrigerator has reported a faulty icemaker, and we need to replace the frimfrange on the geezwat to get it working properly. All I need to do is log on to www.ge.com/fridgeparts.html, enter code "12345", and the part I need will be shipped the next day.

Or, how about this: the fridge is okay, but a built in radon-detector has notified GE that we may have excessive radon gas in the house. Or carbon monoxide. Or lead in the water. Or too much Haagen-Dazs in the freezer . . .
