well, when you put it that way... :-)

i agree that 10Mbps is really what's needed, though 1Mbps is "good enough" to allow for sharing the DSL offerings that RBOCs are pushing.

there are multiple goals:

- make it more attractive for households to buy 2nd PCs
- make cost of high-speed links more palatable by facilitating sharing among home PCs
- drive technology to facilitate networking among non-PC "smart" appliances in the home (e.g. IP telephones)
- interoperability

all this to drive more unit sales of MS operating systems and e-commerce.

you really dislike MSFT, eh?
