But this PII is running at 100 MHz bus. I would guess that the Intel benchmarks you refer to were done with the mobile Deschutes running at 66 MHz bus.

Tench, the extent to which 100 MHz bus raises power consumption depends on how much SDRAM the notebook has. IMO, the performance improvement a K6-3 gets on a 100 MHz bus vs. 66 MHz bus is insignificant and most users would prefer longer battery life.
