During Dec. 1998, consumer spending advanced at an unsustainable 0.8%, while the savings rate declined 0.1%, (the lowest in over 30 years). These numbers don't bode well IMO for the retail industry during 1999. Yes the discounters should do relatively better than the department stores as a whole, but I am beginning to feel the retail sector may not be the best place to be for a while. When do you anticipate Bradlees re-emergence from bankruptcy? I don't seem to be able to get quotes trying BDADV BRADQ or BRAD.
