This will probably be a merger as Uniphase's revenues are close to JDS's at US$212m for the last 12 months. Some more info: Uniphase Corporation is an optoelectronics company that makes fiber-optic telecommunications equipment, laser subsystems, and laser-based semiconductor wafer-defect examination and analysis equipment. Its chips are used by communications companies to increase the capacity of optical fibers. Uniphase supplies its laser subsystems to original equipment manufacturers in various markets, including graphics and printing (color separation, direct-to-plate printing), biotechnology (DNA sequencing), and industrial process control. Uniphase also makes semiconductor capital equipment products (such as the Ultrapointe System Solution) that identify microscopic defects in semiconductors.
