Just talked to my partner who voiced similar sentiments. He said if one would just invest in the blue chips, one should double their money every 4 years. He said, heck, even an idiot investing in the SP 500 would earn 16-20% a year. I said that's not the norm. He said, why not, just look at the chart. He said, what is the norm. I said, hell if I know, but this don't seem like it should be the norm. Hell, maybe he's right, maybe this is the norm.
