I didn't see mention of AAPL pulling out of the SB in the trades anywhere. I know that several clients have, from time to time, asked out. That doesn't say anything about this ad or any other one.
AAPL may not have intended it for broadcast, but from what I've read elsewhere, there was great hue and cry for it to be aired.....

Basically, it comes to this....AAPL wouldn't have bought the time if they didn't have something they intended to air. So, either they had another ad they scotched (doubt it), or they intended to air HAL all along.
Or...they bought the ad a little late in the game (which is silly, because you pay through the nose) to quiet demand for HAL to air.
