Fairfield Co CT...ah...I lived in that part of the world in the early 80s...you're in GE country...and all the big drugs..and the brokers who ride the train into Wall Street. Even when I was there there was a lot of "old money" with huge stock holdings and inherited wealth.
The new money is driving fancy new cars and the old money is driving older cars because they sold their stock too soon. -g
I remember 1982 there...lots of very big foreclosed homes. I was rear-ended by a sweet young thing...her parents showed up and looked at her brand-new trashed car. "Don't worry, dear, we were about to buy you a new one". fffffffffffffffff.........

<<The bulls are driving fancy new cars and the bears are driving older cars -g- >>

It seems to me that bears are more likely to be more educated, and too educated people usually less wealthy in the real life <g>.

I'm not all that far from you and have friends in Greenwich. I can verify with my own two eyeballs that the bears are most definitely driving old 'GM' cars, usually 70's vintage Impalas (they are large and have room for what few belongings the bears, such as Lucretius Taurus, have left). I've also seen a couple of them picking up empty Starbucks coffee cups along Greenwich Avenue...

My experience with people who have a lot of money is that they prefer to save it, not spend it, and definitely do not like to show it off. They are conservative with their purchases, too, and drive older cars, and live in more modest homes. The recent best-seller, "The Millionaire Next Door" confirms my observations.
