<<One other thing I noticed was the the tick stayed low or negative most of the day again. >>

Yiwu, I often watch the tick intraday, and it is surprising how often this happens. The indexes will climb with a negative tick. This can probably be explained in several different ways. Here's one-

The volume is flowing into the advancing stocks. (a narrow advance) This can be confirmed somewhat by looking at the up volume vs. down volume, and A/D. The tick can be negative, yet the cap weighted indexes can still advance, because the big boyz are getting the volume.

This is often a sign of a sharp reversal coming. I have noticed that when this 'tick divergence' is large, and particularly when it continues for a day or more, the indexes often reverse hard to correct the divergence. This is particularly true when the up vs. down volume is also negative.

Hope this is of some help,
TW
