Cirruslvr,

Intel To Cut Celerons Again, Push Up 433 Launch

The only differences between PIII and Celeron, are going to 17 MHz, KNI, and the spy stuff. It appears that AMD is driving Intel's management out of their minds. They are taking a pretty big risk with this move. PIII is like the story of "The Emperors New Clothes".

It indicates to me that Intel believes K6-3 is imminent.

Cirruslvr: <<Intel To Cut Celerons Again, Push Up 433 Launch>>

Presumablly, Intel should have the best intelligence on AMD's production efficiency on each speed of K6x and the price cuts and 433 launch are very indicative of AMD's progress on:

1. 400 parts are ramping up as we speak, and Jerry kept his promise on this one.

2. 450 chip is coming for SURE as that is what C433 up against for.

As long as AMD keep pricing K6-2 line against Celeron, Celeron would have a tough time to regain the market share.

AMD is doomed....

....

again.....

and it missed it's BIG chance (again) to build a warchest while it sold 5.5M units in the last quarter..

Jesus H. Christ! a 433 celeron, SPP Socket 370...

AMD will not make any money
AMD will not gain any more market share ( and might lose some...)
AMD will not make enough monet to continue investing in more R&D
while INTEL crushes them under a $ 3B R&D program..

Finally, AMD will have problems rolling out the K7, and it's dresend FAB will not go smoothly..

Let's face it.. When it comes to execution, this company is the keystones cops....

It's doomed... again

Take care
All IMO

Re: Intel To Cut Celerons Again, Push Up 433 Launch

The boys from Intel must really be sweating in their bunny suites.

Does anybody care to bet that Intel will not be making a pre-earnings announcement of better then expected profits this quarter. I think Intel investors will be screaming bloody murder when the see the effect of this foolish price war on the bottom line. The situation will only be further exacerbated for Intel as the K7 causes them to lower margins on PII, PIII and Xeon chips.
